In this session we will reimagine safeguarding by focusing on possibilities to strengthen cultures of care. ‘Safeguarding’ processes often fall short of offering the tools and approaches we might need and want to keep the people that we work and organise with safe. ‘Safeguarding’ protocol in itself can be a source of harm to the most marginalised communities. In this session we will focus on what safety means for ourselves and the communities we work with, and explore what alternative safeguarding process and practice can support this.

Key topics will include:

  • Reflective space around safety and safeguarding for migration sector organisations
  • Tools to support alternative practice
  • A culture of care in practice

Outcomes:

Participants introduced to tools and principles to strengthen a culture of safety and care in their own contexts

Provision of a dedicated space for cross-sectoral reflection, peer-peer support, practice and relationship building
