Submit a Story
Work with us to share your organising story and the lessons you learned along the way.
Have you organised in your community – won something, lost something, learned something? We want to publish your story, and we pay £150 per published piece. Our website is where community organisers share their stories, lessons, and resources so that we can become stronger together.
The stories we publish
What we’re looking for:
- Stories of community organising – building relationships, teams, and leadership over time.
- Wins and challenges – what worked, what didn’t, and what was learned.
- Your own voice and experience.
- Stories driven by our shared values of collective care.
What we’re not looking for:
- Stories of mobilising or one-off actions.
- Pieces advocating for a cause, rather than telling an organising story.
- Overly technical or jargon-filled pieces.
- Press releases or book promotions.
Unsure if your experience counts as organising? Read our Transformative Community Organising page for further guidance.
Our offer to you
- £150 per published story.
- Editorial support from our communications team to develop your piece.
- Promotion of your story through our newsletter and social media.
How to get published
- Think about your pitch – what’s your angle? What can other organisers learn from your story? What makes it yours to tell? Check our Stories page to make sure something similar hasn’t already been published.
- Pitch – submit your idea using the form below. We’ll get back to you within a week to commission or decline the piece.
- Draft – once commissioned, our communications team will plan the piece with you, via Zoom or email, whichever you prefer. Then you can start writing – aim for around 1,000 words.
- Edit and review – we’ll work with you through some redrafts, with feedback to make your story stronger. Share any images of your work that you’d like to include at this stage.
- Publish and promote – once proofread and finalised, we’ll publish your story and promote it through our newsletter and social media.
- Get paid – send us your invoice and we’ll pay you £150 within 30 days.
A note on AI
You’re welcome to use AI tools for accessibility or to support clarity. However, your own voice and insight should be a key part of your pitch and the final piece, which is something no tool can replicate. Pieces that read as AI-written won’t be published.
