Strengthen Practice through Reflection – Community Organising Foundations
Evaluation uncovers what is working and what isn’t. Learn to celebrate successes, understand failures, and apply lessons to future work.
Act Build Change | 24 Nov 2026 | Online
Evaluation and celebration are critical for learning, and keeping motivation and morale high. Too often they get squeezed out by the next urgent task, but without them we lose the chance to understand what’s working, learn from what isn’t, and sustain the people doing the work.
This training looks at why evaluation and celebration matter in organising, what happens when they are missing, and how to approach them effectively. Through interactive exercises and frameworks we will explore how to test our strategy, learn from wins and failures whilst sustaining morale, and apply those lessons to our future work. You will leave with practical tools to make evaluation and celebration a lasting part of your organising practice.
Outcomes:
- Understand why evaluation and celebration are critical for organising and leadership development.
- Practise evaluation and celebration in an organising context.
- Reflect on how you can apply these principles to your own work.
This training is part of our foundations series, designed for both new and experienced organisers who are ready to develop practical organising skills. We recommend taking the introduction training first to understand the core concepts of transformative community organising.
Meet the facilitators
Stephanie Wong is a community organiser, facilitator and collective care practitioner. She has won with many others on issues from citizenship for young people, securing better wages for 1000s of staff and winning housing for those seeking asylum. She has trained hundreds of community leaders who have gone on to win local and national policy change and political elections. She has taught at Stanford, Harvard, UCL and LSE University. She built Act Build Change with her husband Ricky in 2018 in response to some of the inaccessible ways organising was taught in the UK. Together, they hoped to give a contribution to the field of organising that would allow more of us to get great organising training in accessible, dignified and transformative ways.
Ezimma Chigbo is a writer, healer and creative facilitator with a background in youth work. She specialises in working with young women exploring issues such as healthy relationships, labels and identity and has worked mainly with young women involved in the criminal justice system.
