Part Time
Community Organiser and Engagement Lead at Labour Behind the Label
Work to build worker-led power in the Leicester garment industry.
Leicester | 19 Oct 2025
Labour Behind the Label is recruiting a community organiser and engagement lead. We have worked on campaigns for garment workers rights and experiences in Leicester since the pandemic. We want to ensure the long-term legacy of that work is rooted in community power and we need an organiser who can help bring local people together to work on building their own solutions as a community. The voice of garment workers is central to all our projects, and our work amplifies the demands of workers within the industry. We want to address the continued lack of worker self-organising by approaching the work from a community organising model. In Leicester, we want to be guided by strong grassroots efforts by and for local people, and that includes garment workers.
The community organiser will work along two main activity strands: delivering on existing community engagement project work, and community organising.
Our biggest requirement for this role is enthusiasm about reaching out to local people in a language they will understand and a genuine interest in building community power. If you are a confident communicator that is persuasive and creative and can handle rejection, difficult group dynamics or conflicting priorities, we’d love to hear from you, even if you don’t feel you fully meet our specification.
